The purpose of this project was to choose a topic on a current global social awareness issue. The impact of rising sea levels jumped out at me. To illustrate this problem, I created a one minute video, poster and billboard signage based on a timeline and radial/rotational spreads that were designed first.
Global warming is the leading cause in sea level rise. The increasing average temperature of the Earth is directly related to the ice sheets melting which is raising the global ocean levels at rates faster than ever. While there is no direct way to make the levels recede, action can be taken to prevent a slower rate of rise. There also has to be preventative action taken to protect the coastal cities of the world as rising sea levels create more powerful storm surges. The destruction hurricanes have caused in recent years shows how important it is that sea levels do not rise any further than they already are.
The NOAA is a government agency that provides data to citizens, planners, emergency managers, and other decision makers with information about our planet for social, environmental and economic purposes. The information from the NOAA's Digital Coast, which allows coastal data to be provided to the public, was used to create this campaign.
