For this project, I focused on designing a simple UI design for an app called Allergy Free. This app will allow users with food allergies to search their location for the safest places to eat. Users can write reviews for the restaurants they visit about how well the restaurant catered to their food allergy needs as well as the quality of the food. This app aims toward a solution for the growing food allergy problem in today’s world.
I designed a UI that was friendly and inviting. Being a person with a food allergy, I know myself that we are very cautious when choosing places to eat. To have an inviting design helps the user feel more comfortable. For this reason, the main color of the app is a bright yellow that invokes that inviting feeling. The typeface used in the headings has a hand-written quality to it which helps it appeal to all ages. Since more people are being born with food allergies, it was important to design something that appealed to a younger demographic so they could feel safe too, or if they’re too young to use the app, they could watch their parents use the app. This project is successful because it reaches out to a direct niche audience and provides a solution to their daily issues.
